STUDY INDIA PROGRAMME

Introduction

The Study India Programme (SIP) of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) provides an opportunity for students from abroad to study and experience various aspects of social work and social sciences in the Indian context. It offers an excellent blend of both theory and related field experiences in a developing country.

The TISS, a Deemed University, is internationally recognised for its excellence in education, research and field action. It has contributed significantly to policies and debates on socially relevant issues and problems. It follows a semester with credit system for its various courses and programmes. With its experienced and accomplished faculty, dynamic student community, well-equipped library, fast internet connectivity and electronic data processing facilities, it provides meaningful creative opportunities for students interested in engaging with the social realities of the South. The institute has three beautiful campuses with comfortable residential and dinning facilities.

Courses Offered

Regular Courses

The Social Work Programme at TISS offers a unique sectoral and thematic diversity, reflecting a strong multidisciplinary orientation to social analysis and practice. Courses focus on critical inquiry into action and research, nature and effectiveness of public programmes and policies, institutional mechanisms and innovations in the social sector. Pedagogies include classroom instruction through lectures, discussions, student presentations, screenings, seminar sessions with specialists and field placement with social organisations. International students may opt to study courses across disciplines.

Specially Designed Courses for SIP

Apart from the regular programmes, the following courses can be offered for a group of 10 students and above. The duration of these courses can vary from a few weeks to one semester and can be customised to specific needs.

Field Practicum

Up to one semester on selected practice areas/themes from the list of courses mentioned above.

Fees

The basic fee and additional cost vary according to the nature of the programme and its duration.
