POST-GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN
SOCIAL WELFARE ADMINISTRATION

Introduction

The Post-Graduate Certificate in Social Welfare Administration is offered by the School of Social Work . This certificate programme is meant for those who do not have social work training, but hold administrative positions in social welfare/development organisations.

This certificate programme is a one semester, full-time professional course and is conducted in the Mumbai Campus of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS).

Course Outline

Courses

Candidates will be required to take required to take 6 courses — 4 foundation and 2 optional courses.

• Social Policy and Social Welfare Administration
• Management of Development Organisations
• Integrated Social Welfare Practice
• Programme Planning Monitoring and Evaluation

Optional Courses

• Women and Development
• Child Welfare
• Policies and Programmes for the Disabled
• Development and Welfare of SC, ST and Backward Classes
• Social Work Practice in Community Health
• Youth Welfare
• Education for the Disadvantaged
• Communication Methods
• Laws related to Social Welfare Organisations
• Rural Development

Field Work

Candidates will be assigned to a specific organisation/institution and will work under the guidance of a field instructor, usually a faculty member of TISS. Field work tasks include study of different aspects of social welfare administration and emerging problems of social welfare.

Eligibility

A Bachelor’s Degree in any faculty from a recognised University with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of social welfare/ development programmes.

Reservations

The TISS is an equal opportunity institution and there is no discrimination on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender, marital status, age or physical disability. As per the Government of India directives, there is a reservation for the following groups.

• 15% seats for Scheduled Castes and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes.
• 3% of seats are reserved for the persons with disability of which 1% each is reserved for (a) Low Vision/ Blindness, (b) Hearing Impairment, and (c) Locomotor Disability/ Cerebral Palsy.
