Workshop Announcement : Theme: To Live with Diversity and Difference: We Learn to Handle Conflicts the TCI way. from Aug 18 to 22, 2008. The series of workshops on pedagogy and personal development that may be useful for all those involved in classroom teaching, training or any kind of participatory work in groups. Theme centered Interaction is a concept of running groups, not just a bag of techniques, rather a distinct method based on the idea of learning as an active, creative and discovering activity. "Living Learning" as it is called, emphasizes the attentive awareness of oneself and others in personal and in professional contexts; the strengthening of interdependence and autonomy in relationships; imparting knowledge in a lively way, involving participants in this process; promoting cooperation rather than rivalry and integrating the demands of the working task with a regard for the individual and for the interpersonal relationships. Participants can expect to understand structures and processes for steering groups to achieve a dynamic balance between the varying needs of the individual, the purposive interaction in the group as a whole and the realization of the work/task all within the environment from its narrowest to its broadest context. This early announcement is to help those interested to block their dates. We hope many more would get interested in this workshop as the method of tci may introduce elements that may be useful for re-conceptualising classroom teaching as well as training. The theme and other details are mentioned below. More information on the event will be shared later. Interested persons please confirm participation by email (nishimitra@tiss.edu) or by phone (ext 5312). Brief on the Workshop Theme: To Live with Diversity and Difference: We learn to handle conflicts the tci way As human beings we wish harmony with our surroundings- people and world, we love peace and sharing. As human beings we live in conflicts every day – inner ones and outside. Ruth C. Cohn, the German psychologist who developed the TCI concept, formulated a simple sentence as one of the bases of this paradox: “All human beings are equal and different.” Diversity may generate conflicts. Equality may allow reconciliation. In this seminar we will deal with this paradox of human existence and the question how to handle it. We will look at the differences between other persons and ourselves in the seminar group and in our professional and private lives and at the conflicts arising from there. We will look at the patterns that Western and Indian cultures as well as different families and persons have developed for dealing with these conflicts, for the purpose of a better understanding. And we will look at the specific instruments, TCI offers for handling conflicts and try to use them. Chief Facilitator: Ms. Karin G.
