Students’ Union

Every student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences is a member of the Students’ Union. The Union organises a varied programme of activities including lectures, debates, sports and social events. Members of the Union are represented on the Students’ Aid Committee and the Dining Hall Committee, along with the faculty of TISS.

In the aftermath of the tsunami, the Students’ Union actively participated in facilitating student coordination for tsunami-related efforts.

Sameeksha

Sameeksha is the annual seminar organised by the Master’s students of Social Work. The seminar is organised around a theme and students from other universities and academic institutions around the country participate in it. Some of the recent themes for Sameeksha have been:

Manthan

Manthan is the annual seminar of the Master’s programme of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations. The seminar provides a meaningful and constructive interaction between the academia and the industry. HR managers from the industry, academicians and students from all over the country participate in Manthan. Also organised around a theme, some recent themes for Manthan have been:

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance is the annual seminar of the Master’s students of the Health Administration and Hospital Administration programmes. Experts in the areas of health administration and hospital administration are invited to address the various issues related to the theme of the Seminar. Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes Cell

The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) Cell was set up in the Tata Institute of Social Sciences to promote the special interests of students in the reserved category with financial assistance from the University Grants Commission. Since its inception, the Cell has been providing special inputs in areas where the students experience difficulties.

The Cell conducts regular remedial coaching classes on life skills, personality development, writing assignments and making presentations, as well as Hindi and Marathi language classes. The Cel also organizes interactive sessions and informal meetings with students to attend to their personal, social and academic problems.

A Manual has been prepared in order to guide the students to optimally utilise the benefits of the schemes offered by the Government of India and the University Grants Commission.
