Introduction

The geospatial technology is an integrated technique includes remote sensing, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Global  Positioning Systems (GPS), which provides a powerful mapping and analyzing tools for planning and management of natural resources and human societies. The application of the geospatial technology is increasing day by day in various sectors. This 21 days summer/winter school will focus on enhancing the knowledge and skills of the participants through basic geospatial knowledge, skill development through expert’s lectures and practical exercises through hands on training using open source software. The participants from different discipline such as geology, geography, environmental science, disaster management, oceanography, forestry, agricultural sciences and civil engineering from Colleges/Universities/Other research institutes will be trained.

Objectives and Course content

The objectives of the training program is to bring the participants to understand the various components of Geospatial technology and its applications in natural resource mapping, and development of policy and planning with respect to natural resource. The course will be delivered in the following ways.

  • First week will be covered basic and fundamental concepts of geospatial technology along with basic tools training using open source software.
  • Second week will focus on application and practical aspects of geospatial technology through GIS database generation.
  • The third week will be completely focused on application of geospatial technology using open source software and the participants will be carried out a small project on their area of interest or given topic.

Eligibility Criteria

Academicians and Researchers from colleges/universities/other research institutes, and state/central Government officials have basic knowledge in geospatial technology and wish to develop their skills. The participants from Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Oceanography, forestry/ agricultural sciences and Civil Engineering background will be preferred to  apply.
