Chhattisgarh: Accelerated Learning for Knowledge Economy - Teacher Professional Development (CHALK-TPD)

As part of the project, TISS will be working in collaboration with CG-SCERT and Samagra Shiksha to strengthen teacher professional institutions as well as teachers. Acknowledging the present strengths of the state of Chhattisgarh and its strive towards developing a Knowledge Economy, TISS has identified 5 Pillars to design, implement and sustain the positive impact of CHALK project. The central focus of TISS approach is to improve quality in-service Teacher Professional Development by optimizing these 5 pillars.

  1. System Institution Strengthening (SCERT, CTE, IASE, DIETs)
  2. Capacity Development (Teacher Educators, School Complex Leaders, Teachers)
  3. Robust Monitoring and Evaluation System
  4. Effective Communication (Internal and External)
  5. Research-based Practices


The following are some of the activities undertaken as part of CHALK-TPD:

 

  • Identifying key functions and roles the functionaries of SCERT, DIETs, IASE, CTE etc. need to perform, assessing the adequacy of their present competencies in this regard and thereby identifying their professional development needs.
  • Creating functionary/subject-grade wise resource groups at state, zone and district levels to facilitate educational change and capacity building of various stakeholders envisaged in CHALK project in context to teacher professional development.
  • Providing technical assistance and expertise for systemic strengthening leveraging the institutional expertise of the Centre of Excellence in Teacher Education (CETE), TISS This will facilitate a university-school education system connect and enable a continual flow of mentoring support from TISS, in turn enabling the State to develop systems which are informed by latest research-based practices of teacher professional development.
  • Building systems and processes to enable the participation of resource groups in various national and international seminars & other knowledge-exchange forums to discuss the latest developments of teacher professional development.
  • Providing a robust monitoring and evaluation system as well as inculcating the practices of taking informed decisions driven by Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.

With the arrival of this project, it will be easier to speed up and expand the various NEP 2020 reform works started in the last four years in the state of Chhattisgarh and there will be a comprehensive improvement in the quality of school education.


Under this project, training related to teaching-learning as per class level, opportunity for teachers to choose suitable training for themselves (Blended training), remedial teaching for every subject and concept for classes from upper primary to higher secondary level. , Arrangement of analysis of children's results using digital technology for effective assessment in schools, availability of high quality test items ICT and science laboratory, smart classrooms, benefit of infrastructure development to selected schools, large number of Scheduled Caste and Tribe settlements.

Apart from this, various capacity development programs will also be organized through SCERT to bring changes in school education by training the school principals working in the state on other useful issues besides academic and administrative leadership
