Pangaea 2017

The School of Habitat Studies at Tata Institute of Social Sciences is organising its annual School Festival, Pangaea on 27th and 28th January, 2017. The school has successfully organised this event every year since 2014. The School of Habitat Studies, a centre for knowledge excellence, focuses on providing a comprehensive response to the knowledge- related needs of the society in the habitat sector. It draws from the fields of habitat studies, governance, economics, environmental science, the social sciences, engineering, architecture, and management.

Paper Presentation

The Paper Presentation competition seeks to stimulate critical and analytical thinking in the fields of regulation, climate change, water policy and urban governance. The objective is to bring together a collection of good and forward looking research ideas that can help in shaping our country’s future and reconceptualising our habitat.

Themes for Papers:

Climate Change & Sustainability

  1. Sector specific aspects of climate change mitigation and adaptation
  2. Climate Change: Opportunities and Challenges in the post-Paris era.
  3. Natural Resource & Environmental governance in India

Regulatory Governance

  1. Role of Demonetisation as a regulatory instrument
  2. Evaluation of competition strategy and intervention of regulatory body in telecom sector.
  3. Regulatory communication failures and new strategies.

Urban Policy and Governance

  1. Tangible policy framework for affordable housing in India
  2. The brand called ‘smart city’.
  3. Subaltern cities: Possibilities and scope

Water Policy and Governance

  1. Urban water systems: Planning, Delivery & Management
  2. Rural drinking water: Sanitation, Accessibility and Affordability
  3. Interstate water sharing discourse & water security

Submission Guidelines

  1. All submissions (Abstract & Full Paper) and queries have to be submitted electronically and mailed to
  2. The Paper should carry the name of the Author(s), their designation and institution. Email address of the corresponding authours should be clearly mentioned on the paper.
  3. Submission to be made as: ‘Paper Presentation_Name of Author(s)_Title of the paper’
  4. Paper should be submitted as a word file
    • Font: Times New Roman, 12, single line spacing
    • Citation: Chicago style
  5. Word limit of Extended Abstracts: 1000-1500 words (shall not exceed 1500 words)
  6. Length of the Full paper: 4000 -6,000 words
  7. Recognition certificate will be given to all participants and cash prizes will be awarded to the best two papers.
