It has been 14 years since the Indian Ocean Tsunami, but questions regarding practices in disaster relief and rehabilitation, sensitive to specific geographies and cultural contexts, remain. With a focus on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, JTSDS is organising a Roundtable to examine key questions in post-disaster recovery and development such as:
1. What role did the recovery process play in the development of the islands?2. How did the power relations shift? 3. Who has benefited more/less from these developments? 4. What interventions promoted sustainability and long- term development?
A multi-sectoral group of experts will present their experience and evidence, and these discussions will enrich disaster discourse and future response processes, especially in eco-fragile regions.
Rs. 300 for TISS StudentsRs. 1,000 for other participants.
Fees include tea, lunch and materials, but not accommodation.
