Stress on coordination among central prisons

Vijay Raghavan, Project Director, Prayas, TISS, said that the discharged prison inmates face the problems of shelter, employment, re-integration with the family and the continued harassment by the police whenever a crime occurred. These problems cannot be addressed unless the government and civil society come together in a determined manner to solve them, aided by a combination of administrative resolve and political will. Ninety percent of the NGOs confined their activities to the inside of the prison, but did not extend them to the environment outside the prison to rehabilitate the prison inmates and their families after their discharge.
