Dr. Harshad Thakur has completed his MBBS and MD (Preventive and Social Medicine - PSM / Community Medicine) from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai.
Currently he is working as Professor with the School of Health Systems Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai.
He was Director at the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi for 2 years from October 2019 to September 2021.
He also worked in PSM Dept. at KEM Hospital for almost 7 years where he was Lecturer from 1993 and later on Associate Professor till October 2000.
He has been working with the TISS since last 20 years where he joined as Associate Professor during November 2000 and became Professor in 2008.
He started a MPH (Master’s of Public Health) program with a specialization in Social Epidemiology in June 2008 at TISS. He has expertise guiding research projects of PhD, M.Phil, MPH, MHA and DHA students at TISS. He has also organized and conducted various national / international workshops and seminars.
Research interest of Dr. Thakur includes any area which falls under broad spectrum of Public Health and Epidemiology. He has carried out reseach projects under health financing, workforce analysis, development of quality clinical indicators, user fees, menstrual hygiene etc. He has also carried out research studies for various disease conditions like Tuberculosis, Leishmaniasis, Diabetes, effects of nuclear radiation, etc..
