Manasi Bera is Assistant Professor at the Centre for Labour Studies and Social Protection, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati Campus. She has earlier held various research positions, including at Indian Institute of Dalit Studies, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, National Council of Applied Economic Research and Institute of Development Studies Kolkata. She has taught at Kirori Mal College and Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board, University of Delhi. Her research focuses on inequality, social exclusion, migration and labour market dynamics. She has presented her work at various conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals. She has also reviewed articles for journals.

She received M.A. in Economics and MPhil in Development Studies (specialisation in Economics) from University of Calcutta, Kolkata, and PhD in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She was awarded NET JRF in Economics by University Grants Commission, Government of India. The Indian Society of Labour Economics awarded her the Sanjay Thakur Young Labour Economist Award in 2018. She is a member of Indian Society of Labour Economics, New Delhi and Development Studies Association, UK.
