Monica Kaothala is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Counselling, School of Social Work, TISS Guwahati Campus since 2017. She has served as centre chairperson (acting) from 2018-2020 and MASW fieldwork coordinator from 2020-2023. She teaches both at MA and undergraduate programmes.
She has done MA in Social Work (specialization in Family and Child Welfare) from Assam University, M. Phil and Ph. D from University of Delhi. She has qualified UGC-NET and JRF.
Prior to joining TISS, she has worked with CAPART (Council for Advancement of Peoples Action and Rural Technology) an autonomous body under the Ministry of Rural Development as Young Professional (YP) fostering her first professional career. She has also worked with National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) a cross-disability organization working for the rights of persons with disability.
