Sunayana has a PhD in Psychology from University of Hyderabad. Her research focused on the Health Communication between doctors and patients and its impact on adherence and prognosis. She is the recipient of the Indian Council of Medical Research Fellowship during her PhD programme. She is also a Counselling Psychologist by training.
Currently, she works with the School of Gender Studies, at the Hyderabad campus as an Assistant Professor. She is also the Chairperson of Office of Students' Affairs, and Coordinator of the Counselling Centre. Sunayana coordinates the Doctoral Programme in Women's Studies. Apart from these, she is the Coordinator of the newly formed Centre for Training and Capacity-Building.
